In Covington, The Chimes has two choices on their menu. Choose between the chicken and sausage gumbo made with a duck stock base, or indulge in the seafood gumbo. The seafood gumbo is full of crab meat, oysters, shrimp and okra, and will not disappoint. Nearby in Abita Springs, find Artigue's Abita Market. The gumbo here remains a mystery until it is announced on social media. It is only available on select days, too, making it a special treat. One day you may experience the bold flavors of turkey, tasso and sausage gumbo and on your next visit, you might get to taste the shrimp, sausage and okra gumbo.

Over in Madisonville, Tchefuncte's serves up smoked chicken and andouille sausage gumbo with a scenic view of the Tchefuncte River. Looking for the best of both worlds? Head over to Southside Cafe in Slidell and order the Irish Channel Gumbo. With a levee of housemade potato salad in the middle, you can have it all in one bowl. On one side, dive into chicken and sausage gumbo and enjoy seafood gumbo on the other. This bowl will "shore-ly" hit the spot and leave you wanting more of The Northshore's culinary delights.
